Chinese Consortium Buys Opera for 600million Bye Bye OperaMini

Chinese Consortium Buys Opera for 600million Bye Bye OperaMini

The men from China are back again. Not to poach football players from your club, but to buy popular brand Opera from its Norwegian owners for about 600 million US Dollars. After a $1.2billion deal fell through earlier in the year, the owners of Opera have decided to sell most of the company to a chinese consortium led by search and security firm Qihoo 360. They will be buying the browser business, including iths privacy and performance apps, its tech licensing and of course the Opera brand name. This means that the fate of about 1,109 employees are currently unknown.

In a statement by the Opera CEO, Lars Boilesen, he said that he believes the deal vs very good for Opera employees and her shareholders. The company will still keep its consumer division which includes Opera Apps & Games and Opera TV which accounts for the bulk of the $616 million revenue the company accumulates. He also continued: "For Opera shareholders we are selling approximately a quarter of the company for $600m, which is an attractive price for this part of our business". The acquisition was approved by the Opera Board of directors and has given the Chinese consortium 18 months to find a new name.

Opera is the fifth most popular desktop browser and accounts for about 10% of the mobile market. The browser has very intuitive features which has endeared it to the hearts of its users. Some of the features include in-built ad-blocking, data and video compression tools and a built in VPN. Hopefully, these features will not be removed else the browser loses its uniqueness.

Bye Bye OperaMini Browser, you will be missed.

BYE INTERNET EXPLORER WELCOME SPARTAN BROWSER

BYE INTERNET EXPLORER WELCOME SPARTAN BROWSER

Since Microsoft announced Windows 10 and released the preview version for download, a lot of rumours have been making waves that Microsoft is finally saying goodbye to the unpopular Internet Explorer and bringing in a new browser codename "spartan". The new browser is said to be created from the scratch and is purportedly going to look more like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. This is good news for the 99% of us who simply hate using internet explorer for surfing the internet.
The new browser will reportedly use Microsofts Chakra JavaScript and Trident engines rather than the common WebKit, just like Internet Explorer does. It is expected to ship in with Windows 10 when it goes on sale. The "spartan" browser is expected to be fully unveiled later this month at Microsofts media event.

The browser is expected to come with Microsofts virtual assistant Cortana integrated into it. Leaks of the browser have also shown a darker theme being employed by Microsoft although with a clean and simpler look.
Internet Explorer alternative

The question remains... Will you abandon Firefox or Chrome for this? Lets keep our fingers crossed.
When windows 10 is fully announced and detailed on January 21st more will be known about the "spartan" browser.

UPDATE: The Browser is called the Microsoft Edge and comes pre-installed with Windows 10. Click here to Download Windows 10.

Bye Emulators Whatsapp Now Available on PC

Bye Emulators Whatsapp Now Available on PC

Finally, we can say goodbye to Bluestacks and other Android emulators which enable us to access Whatsapp on our PC/Laptop. This is good news for users of the popular cross-platform instant messaging app. Already, recent studies have shown that more Whatsapp messages are sent per day than conventional SMS.

Whatsapp on PC

The whatsapp for PC is an extension of the one you are running on your mobile phone and is only available by a Google Chrome Plugin. This means that all your messages are still live on your phone.

PROCEDURES

To use Whatsapp on your PC,
  • Visit web.whatsapp.com in your Google Chrome browser
  • A QR code will be shown that can be scanned by the mobile version of whatsapp
  • Now your phone has been paired and your chats will be mirrored to your PC.
Make sure you have he latest version of Whatsapp installed on your phone and keep your phone connected to the internet.

The QR codes will look like the above picture with instruction for each compatible device. From the above, you can see iOS users have been left out. This is due to "Apple platform limitations" as reported by Whatsapp.
Maybe soon, voice call compatibility will be added by the Facebook owned company.

What are your thoughts on this new improvement to Whatsapp? Leave a comment.
