Book Review The Capillas of San Miguel de Allende
[By Marc Taro Holmes in Montreal, CA] Every so often an inspiring project is brought to my attention. The Capillas of San Miguel de Allende: A Legacy of Faith by Lorie Topinka and Linda Whynman is exactly the kind of sketching narrative that I love to hear about.
Their book is an excellent resource for anyone inspired to try an off-the-beaten-path sketching adventure near San Miguel, Mexico.
I was pleased to get a copy from Lorie, and am excited to give everyone a peek inside.
Some time ago, these two painters began a personal project to visit and paint as many of the local Capillas as possible. They have taken their treasure hunt for these historic brick and plaster chapels and expanded it into an informative guide for other travelling sketchers.
I have to admire their unflagging motivation to explore the area around San Miguel. Its a kind of self-appointed artistic obsession that I always enjoy on my own. Its great to see what other artists latch onto. This kind of painting series is such a great way to learn first hand about a region and its rich cultural heritage.
I feel like the current growth of field sketching as a past-time in North America and beyond is creating a growing interest in this sort of project. Half art book, and half guide book. I hope to see more of these passion projects over the next few years.
The authors showcase their own favorite sketches, collected over months of travelling back roads. At the same time, they give us some historical background and little bit of local color for each of the individual monuments, and most importantly - there are maps! So that other sketchers, history buffs, and visitors to San Miguel can follow in their footsteps and experience these fascinating locations.
Many of the sites look to be half way between restored, and on their way to ruin. Some of these will be brought back into use by the community, but Im sure over time, others of them will vanish. Making this guide is an interesting document of a time and place that may one day be lost.
The book is 95 pages, with dozens of illustrations and photographs. Chapters are divided, like most tour guides, into a one day highlights tour, and shorter trips to specific destinations. As well, it has a most intriguing bonus chapter on Hidden Capillas. Places that are not marked on any map, or visible from roads.
The authors offer a few clues to finding these spots, but I think, for these hidden gems, would-be artist/adventurers would need a comfort level with being lost, a good knowledge of Spanish, and willingness to talk to the locals about gaining access. Perhaps there is a future in the San Miguel sketchers offering tours? Who knows!

Asus will announce something on August 31 probably the Zenwatch 3
The Asus Zenwatch 3 was first outed by the FCC a few days ago, which revealed that it will be the first smartwatch from the Taiwanese company to feature a round screen. Then just a couple of days after that, we got some leaked images showing us the upcoming wearable from a lot of angles.
And today we may have the Zenwatch 3’s unveiling date. Asus has used its official Twitter account to release the image you can see below.
So clearly the company is planning on announcing something on August 31, at a pre-IFA press event. It’s also obvious that Asus’ love for the world “incredible” is still strong. While this teaser image doesn’t actually tell us that a new watch is coming on that day, keep in mind that the Zenwatch 2 got official at about the same time last year, which means it’s definitely ripe for replacement.
Of course we could also see some new smartphones from Asus on August 31, and maybe even other devices such as tablets and laptops. But the Zenwatch 3 might just be the main star of the show.

Our best look yet at the Samsung Galaxy Note 7
Loads of photos claiming to show the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 have leaked over the last couple of months, but for the most part theyve all been focused on the front of the phone. As such weve had a good look at the screen and iris scanner, but not at the back, the camera or the ports.
Well today thats all changed, as a new batch of photos has been posted to Weibo and spotted by TechTastic, giving us a clear look at the front, back and bottom edge of the Note 7.
From the back it looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy S7, with a reflective black covering thats likely made of glass and a camera that looks exactly the same, complete with a lens that appears to protrude slightly from the back.
While the same design doesnt mean the same specs it suggests there probably isnt going to be a huge change to the snapper, which on the S7 is 12MP with optical image stabilization and indeed most current camera rumors point to a 12MP one.
The back is otherwise plain and lacks the Samsung logo found there on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, but then the handset is likely a prototype rather than a finished version.
New ports and old screens
At the bottom edge the design is again a lot like the Galaxy S7 range, with a 3.5mm headphone port and a speaker. However, there are two key differences, firstly the USB port appears to be USB-C rather than micro USB. Thats not the first weve heard of Samsung making the switch, so its believable.
The other difference is the slot on the right for the S Pen. We dont get a good look at the pen itself here, but it leaked just yesterday and looks similar to the Galaxy Note 5s.
Theres less to say about the front, as weve seen it so often, but the screen appears to be flat here, which further suggests this is just a prototype, albeit a functional one, as were not expecting to see a flat version of the Note 7.
Then again, this is the second flat screen version weve seen leaked in as many days, so its always possible that Samsung will surprise us with both flat and curved models.
Well know soon, as the Galaxy Note 7 is almost certainly going to be unveiled on August 2, which is now less than two weeks away.

Just when we thought Snapchat has left Instagram kissing the dust with no hope of the latter meeting the former in the photo/video sharing battle, the Facebook owned Instagram have decided to roll out their own version of what made Snapchat the popular app it is today by introducing a new feature called Instagram stories. Instagram stories basically allows you to post a picture or video and it can only be viewed by those you choose for only 24 hours after which it disappears forever.
This is basically what Snapchat App is all about. Even the name is a direct copy from Snapchat stories. It only shows how the Mark Zuckerberg owned brand is willing to push back to the top of the food chain. If you cant buy them, just copy them.
HOW TO USE INSTAGRAM STORIES
Before you start, you need to make sure that your Instagram app is updated to the latest version. Check at the end of this post for download links.
=> Open your Instagram app and tap he plus button on the top left-hand corner of your screen
=> This will turn on the story camera which you can use to take the picture or video yu want. You can also upload existing pictures and videos from your device too.
=> Take the picture/video or upload existing ones.
=> Edit the picture using new tools added (there are three types of pens you can use to make drawings or doodles)
=> Tap the Done button to save your story and tap the checkmark button to share the story.
HOW TO HIDE INSTAGRAM STORIES
=> Go to your profile and tap the button on the top right hand of your screen
=> Tap Story Settings
=> Tap "Hide my story from.." and adjust the settings as you wish and tap done.
You can also adjust people who comment to only those you follow, everyone or nobody.
With this new feature, Instagram has declared an all out war against SnapChat which will make a very interesting battle to watch. The battle line has been drawn. Instagram stories versus Snapchat Stories. Snapchat is probably somewhere just telling themselves: "Well, at least we have the dog filter and the flower crown filter. Who stories epp?" :-)

There are a lot of rumors flying around about the incoming Phantom 6 and 6 Plus and lots of people are anxiously waiting for the arrival of those mind-blowing devices.
In my previous post about the incoming Phantom Series, I made a promised there that "the real images and specifications will be communicated to you as soon as we get the naked truth". Now, we have got the real images and specifications of Phantom 6 and 6 Plus. I believed that a picture is worth a thousand words, so no much story, but the below pictures say it all.
The key features are already stated in the picture, for the doubt thomas like me, who don’t agree with the Tecno Phantom 6 plus battery capacity due to its slim, see from the picture above and judge for yourself. Some recent sketches of buildings around the North Island could only have one thread in common and thats that theyre a bit weird.
The Palmerston North City Council building (above) is really interesting, if not a little surreal. It sits nestled in flax and cabbage trees with a line of pou whenua on the edge of the Palmerston North town square.
Since sketching it Ive discovered its considered one of New Zealands ugliest buildings, but Id tend to disagree, as it seems to suit the eclectic square nicely, even though it looks like it might lift off with a harvest of human specimens at any moment.
Looming directly behind me while sketching it and reminding me a lot of that scene from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, is the Palmerston North Clock Tower with its intensely glowing and changing lights that pulsate while it broadcasts chamber music through the night, but rather than Richard Drefuss and a team of scientists looking on, just a few ducks and their ducklings sheltering from the duck shooting season were present.
Below is the old Cornish Pumphouse in Waihi. Once boasting a 4 meter stroke and capability of dewatering up to 7000 litres of water per minute from Waihis gold mines early last century.
A few years back it was moved 300 metres on steel rails away from the edge of the expanding open cast mine rim. Downtown Waihi itself is just metres to the left of the building. If the mines rim keeps collapsing as it has been this year they may have to move the old building into the main street.

Fort Takapuna is an archtectural work of genius. Perched on a cliff near Narrow Neck on the North Shore overlooking Rangitoto Island and the main shipping channel into Auckland. Believe it or not its actually the cleverest fort in the world, as it was built below ground so that an advancing enemy couldnt actually see it. I know! Genius!

The fort was originally built to defend Auckland against possible invasion way back in the 1890s. As well as a number of smaller disappearing guns, there were two large guns in the cliff front from which this connected main building could supply a steady stream of ammunition. All designed to protect the Rangitoto Channel from the dreaded advancing Russian vessels. I suspect the Russians had bigger fish to fry so the fort was never actually needed.

[By Marc Taro Holmes in Montreal, CA] The other day was Fourth Sunday, our regular get-together with USK:MTL. I went out for a second round with Maria Coryell-Martins Pocket Palette. (Which she graciously sent to me to try out).
USK sketch-outs are a social affair. Youre spending more time chatting with your sketching friends - new and old. We had a lot of new visitors because of our article in la Press. In fact, I met the person who owns the house I sketched for the piece. That was kind of fun :)The social aspect makes for better drawings sometimes :) I was a more slow-and-steady that my previous night-shoot. You get a more delicate sketch by taking your time. I wasnt keeping track but lets say these were around 20-30 min each. Theyre small, so they finish fast.
These are similar to the 5x7"ish miniature watercolors I did last month. But, unlike last time, theyre drawn directly with the brush (instead of over a pencil sketch). A lot of tiny point work with the #7 round sable.
This is my fall colors limited palette: Neutral Tint, Raw Umber Violet, Quinn Gold Deep, Buff Titanium and Grey of Grey. Ive used the tiniest touch of MG Turquoise in the windows.

Eyes on the Prize
First of all, a bit of background. If you are an economist who supports the selection, i.e. that the winning economists work supports your own work, then you must praise the Nobel committees choice and the prestige of the prize. If you are not, then you must highlight that the economics prize is not a true Nobel prize, as it is comes from the Swedish National Bank, and therefore is not particularly impressive. Either way, one must be careful not to be too enthusiastic about a fellow economists success, lest it be taken for indication of an emotional imbalance.
Second of all, some tips if you, dear reader, are interested in winning said prize. First of all, start early and live long so that your genius has time to be recognised. Second of all, be male. Only one woman, Elinor Ostrom, has received the prize. Third, make sure you are somehow Western, and ideally American. Fourth, become at expert at posing for photos in front of books. Finally, surprisingly, remember you dont actually have to be an economist to win; John Nash, who had the gall to be a mathematician, won in 1994. Things really are going to pot.
Contract theories
Hart and Holmström have won the prize because
Hart built further on this theory by examining the incompleteness of contracts. No contract can possibly foresee every outcome and consequence of incentives. He argued that property rights help mitigate this, as they place the burden of decision making on those with the property - and hence those with a stake in the unforeseen outcomes. Harts recent work on prisons illustrates this; summarised by The Economist: "In publicly owned prisons, managers might underinvest in quality-improving measures, but private owners face too strong an incentive to cut costs, leading to conditions for prisoners that are worse than those in public prisons." These incentives apply to most government services. A privatised patent-granting body would have different incentives than a public body (think of those renewal fee$!)
Contracts and IP
Readers of Katonomics will be familiar with economists focus on the incentives-to-innovate theory of IP. This is often known as the Social Contract (covered previously here), in which IP is a contract between innovators and society; the monopoly protection of IP provides a long-term incentive to innovate. Society cannot foresee (information asymmetry) the value of each potential innovation, so all innovators are granted the same level of protection. Assigning the property right to the innovator incentivises innovation as the innovator has a stake in the outcome and the IP system as a whole.

Finally, licensing contracts enjoy a never-ending analysis of incentives and clauses. The primary job of lawyers negotiating and drafting such contracts is to align the incentives in the contract with the needs of the client. While researching the biotech sector in 2007, I came across an interesting case. My interviewee had exclusively licensed a product on a royalty basis. The licensee instead marketed a competing product, leaving the licensor without royalties. The contract had been used to eliminate competition from the market, and failed to align the parties incentives. Another anecdote is the use by wealthy Multi-national Companies (MNC) of reversion clauses when partnering with companies in developing countries. The MNC engages in joint research and market expansion, then deliberately causes the project to fail in order to trigger the reversion clause. Both background and foreground IP, as per the contract, revert to the MNC. Its a cheap way to expand internationally.

All individual blog post have a permalink that differs from that of any blog post in the web today. It is unique in the way it is made.

Now how do we change or edit a published blog post permalink? Doing this is a capital yes effective and online need your attention on this post.
But before I take you along I would like to give you an example of what permalink looks like.

STEP 1

Now looking at the second permalink, I only used key words to make it much short for search engine to display.
How to change a blog post permalink with out breaking the existing link.
Login to your blogger Dashboard, click on post>all.
The list of all your blog post will be displayed on your screen, mark the post you want to change the permalink and click on Revert to Draft.
Use the Edit mode to open post.
Locate the permalink option at the Right mid side of your screen, click on it and select costom.
On the blank box manually input the phrase you want to use as you blog title.
Now click on Publish.
STEP 2
To setup Permalink Redirection
Now if u visit the old parmalink
https://legendtechny.blogspot.com/2016/09/free-blogspot-blog-on-blogger.7.html.
A 404 Error message will display on your screen.
On your blog Dashboard, on the bottom left side of your screen, click on setting> Search Preferences. Under Errors and Redirection > Custom Redirects, click Edit.
If you have made a previous Permalink redirection, you have to click on the "New Redirect" button to make a new URL redirection.

In blank box written "From" input the old changed URL, then in the box "TO" input the new URL gotten from changing the the old URL.

Select the ‘Permanent’ check box.
Click Save to Save Changes.

Why do we add Redirection.
You might have share the URL of a post in some social network or shared it to friends, for them not to get 404Error message you have to add a URL redirection.

Google has formed a habit of tossing us around with regular changes to its Play Store. And now Google is trying its hands on a fresh new shade of green, with a bigger depth of green than the previous one. Have you not seen it? There is also the large uninstall button as well as tweaked list view for apps. What we are hearing now is something quite fresh deploying big cards for apps which could be swiped horizontally through in search results.
So when you want to search for an app, if you tap a result, you will redirected to the fresh view. There you see the present content but rather of in fullscreen, it is tucked up in a card. When you scroll down, the size of the card increases, and when you scroll up, it shrinks back! When you swipe horizontally, right or left, you come within sight of the other results of the search.
Well we can’t say if this is just some brief test or if it is gradually rolling through via a server-side switch. One thing Google has built a reputation is iterating a lot, trying its hands on lot of things, we are yet to tell if this is going to be permanent.
